The NFL is making sure their brand is as strong as ever with the recent announcement that eight-time Grammy Award winning singer, Usher, would be the 2024 Super Bowl halftime headliner in Las Vegas.

While the NFL average audience broadcast totaled 16.7M in 2022, it was down from 17.1M in 2021. Though both numbers are nothing to sneeze at, the league has been doing everything it can to match the popularity of the on the field product with Super Bowl entertainment that caters to a wide-ranging cultural demographic. Over the last 5 years, the NFL has secured headline halftime performances from Rihanna, Dr. Dre (and friends), The Weeknd, Bad Bunny and Maroon 5.

The response for Usher headlining one of the biggest sporting events of the year has been extremely positive. After all, Usher has been on an impressive run starting from his popular Vegas residency, “My Way” that started in April, his NPR Tiny Desk performance which accumulated over 18M views and his recent Usher “Rendez vous à Paris” shows in France.

The Apple Music rollout was a home run. The music platform enlisted talent partners such as Deion Sanders, Kim Kardashian, O’dell Beckham Jr. and Marshawn Lynch to have fun with Usher’s nostalgic “Confessions” music video scene. Seeing an opportunity to leverage the moment himself, Usher also has announced he will be releasing his ninth studio album “Coming Home”, the same day as the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11th, 2024.
